Le relais de Venise L’Entrecote: Parisian steak in NY

Dear Food Diary:
I fell in love with Le relais Venise L’Entrecote steakhouse in Paris during our trip last November. We knew there was a reason the line was out the door on a cold and rainy day. Average wait time 30min. When my travel buddy heard about the opening in New York, we made reservations asap for opening day.

53rd & 6th Halal: For dinner and lunch

Dear Food Diary:

Last night we had a girls night out. It was a Recession Proof Night. Started off at the Hottest Woman of Comedy show ($4 tix). I can’t remember any of their names, but they were very funny, except for the headliner Esther Ku (she was on Last Comic Standing), she was stinkier than blue cheese. Anyways that’s not the point of this blog, so I’m gonna leave it at that.
After the show, I was invited to Highbar rooftop lounge, so i brought the girls with me. Oh yes! “complimentary” drinks, us asians love free, but then again, who doesn’t. Anyways, so Cabana Brasilian Rum was sponsoring the night, let me tell ya’, it didn’t matter what they mixed it with, passion fruit, pineapple, strawberry, it just tasted bad. But it was a nice night so we sat outside and chit chatted. We got hungry around 11pm and I started to crave for the combo from 53rd and 6th Halal Cart (every night 8pm-4am. It’s perfect for late nights after drinking). 2 of my girlfriends never had it, what? Halal virgins? No way! we had to change that. 4 chicas walking 5 blocks and 3 avenues for this food cart, windy and starting to drizzle at 11:30pm. High heals, makeup looking for street meat, only in New York.

Cupcake Truck for a crummy day

Dear Food Diary:

Yesterday started off as a crummy day. I was really exhausted in the morning, my eyes were super puffy, and as usual i spent a long time trying to figure out what to wear. Got on the bus to work and couldn’t stop yawning, i was soo sleepy that tears were starting to come out, yeah it wasn’t a good look.
Work was fine… bla bla bla… ok, fast forwards to lunch time. I walk to the farmers market with my coworker and there it is, Cupcake Truck right infront of my face. How can I say no to that? I looove cupcakes, specially red velvet (from Magnolia’s or ButterCup). But this truck had more creative flavors in mind, like key lime pie, rocky road and strawberry shortcake! and as if that wasn’t awesome enough, they sold mini cupcakes for $1 each! Were they reading my mind?

Chubby’s 1st Annual New York Restaurant Week Awards 2009

Dear Food Diary:

New York restaurant week has come and gone over the years, and with a tough economy, it seems like the week has extended to weeks and somewhat water downed the concept. Many restaurants get on the wagon for this event just for a head count at the end of the night, but fortunately some have stayed true to themselves and most importantly their food and reputation. And this is my way of honoring them…
