Motorino: Out with the old, in with the “delizioso” new!

Dear Food Diary:
When the dude from Una Pizza Napolitana left for the West Coast, pizza lovers all over were weeping over the thin crusted goodness. But fast forward a couple month, in comes Motorino and all our tears are wiped by an even better baked round dough+cheese+meat. Same oven, but better pizza if you ask me.

Montenapo: A relaxing meal by a Tree Garden, in the heart to Times Square (CLOSED)

Dear Food Diary:
Last week, I was invited by Montenapo to attend a tasting of their current menu with a guest. It was hard picking a plus one, so I did a drawing amongst friends and my college pal Jia (a total food lover like me) won.
There we were, not knowing what to expect, but excited and delighted as we walked into an airy, beautifully lit, high ceiling dining room, with the New York Time’s Building’s Tree Garden
as backdrop. A nice retreat from the ever so busy Times Square area.

Soba Totto: Birthday Lunch

UPDATED 5/11/2012

soba totto happy hour

It’s been more than 2 years since my post (read below) and though a lot has changed in this city, I’m happy to report that my favorite soba spots remain the same. If anything, they’ve evolved into an even better place by adding more menu options and  Happy Hour!  I go for lunch about once or twice a month and it never disappoints.

Lunch isn’t exactly cheap, but totally worth it as a treat every now and then. If the average $20+ seems too extravagant for lunch but you are a soba lover like me, do not pout, you can get plain soba starting at $10.

Foodbuzz 24,24,24: NY “Urban Orphan’s” Thanksgiving TURDUCKEN Dinner

Dear Food Diary:
New York is a city adorned with lights, brought to life by millions and millions of hopes and dreams from people who leave everything behind, their family, friends, and hometown, in search of making it all come true. These are the people I call “urban orphans”.
Jay Z and Alicia Keys describe it best:
“New York!!! Concrete jungle where dreams are made of. There’s nothing you can’t do… These streets will make you feel brand new, the lights will inspire you…”
I came to NY 10 years ago, arriving at 34th street and 10th Ave, with nothing but a suitcase full of excitement and expectations. It hasn’t been easy, but I wouldn’t trade if for anything. Likewise, in this melting pot, there’s a story similar to mine everywhere I turn. The holidays are the time we feel the most homesick. Over the years, I’ve spent Thanksgiving at several friends’ homes (very gracious of them), but honestly the sight of an entire family sharing, laughing and eating together, makes me miss home that much more.
