[MAINE] Chauncey Creek Lobster Pier: Best Lobsta’!
Apparently June 15th was National Lobster Day! To celebrate (belated I know), I’m writing about the best lobster I had on my recent trip to Maine. The owner of our lovely B&B “Morning Glory” recommended the local and hidden gem Chauncey Creek Lobster Pier, he’s a regular, so we knew we were in for a treat.
Very very laid back. BYOB and even food they don’t sell. Some people bring table cloths and candles. Pretty awesome. You make it what you wanted to be.
Simply pick your dinner from 3 sizes and off you go.

I thought it was hilarious, how I was terrified to touch them, but the little girl was like “watever” and sorta rolled her eyes at me for calling her “brave” LOL.
After picking your “entree” the rest of the accompaniments, chose from one of the colorful tables and wait for your lobsta’… sweet!
The view is serene and the weather was perfect.
Finally arrived. We picked the 1 1/2 – 1 3/4 size, medium ones, which were perfect size. The coleslaw was nice and the corn tasted like sugar bla bla bla… the lobster of course, the main star and what brought us to Maine in the first place (ok, the views too, but I’m a foodie, so eating always comes first).
HOW NOT TO “ATTACK YOUR LOBSTER”
On my first attempt, I enlisted the help of StalkerBoy… but he obviously had no clue, even though he insisted on “his method”. (I know the video is a bit crappy, I’m gonna get better at shooting and posting videos once I figure this out! I promise).
THE RIGHT WAY
MY OWN WAY
Detached the head first. Look at all that delicious roe. I mean, I’ve had hairy crabs in Shanghai that would compare to this amount, but my first in a lobster. This is a delicacy in itself. I love the firmer, orange roe, it has a deep lobster flavor with the texture similar to a hard boiled egg yolk. The green part melts in your mouth like butter.
My method was a lot easier. The belly shell wasn’t as hard, so just cracking it section by section worked just as fine. The lobster meat was one of the best I’ve ever had. Super sweet, really firm, with a nice toothsome and bouncy texture. So so good.
You really can’t beat this view and the amazingly fresh lobster here. We only stayed in Maine for only a couple days, but came back again on our last night. It was just too good. I’m not sure I can have lobster in NYC again… it just isn’t the same. I can’t wait to go back. Some people came into dinner on their boat! How cool is that? You can “park” it right by the dock. If you go there for dinner, remember to bring mosquito repellent! I learned that the hard way =(
Their campaign was a good try, but sorry Lobsta’ you’re just too yummy.
Holy moly. I need me some lobstah, pronto!
