La Lucha Tacos: Round Uno – Taste Match

Dear Food Diary:
Last Friday night was alphabet city’s new joint La Lucha Taco’s opening night. I use to watch Mucha Lucha every saturday morning, so the name brought an immediate smile and more importantly the possibility of finding the perfect taco place in nyc.
By the time we arrived around 7:30pm, there was a long line, apparently I wasn’t the only one excited about getting a real Mexican street food experience. We placed our name at the door with friendly co-owner Carlos, who opened this with his best friend. Their idea is to transport us to the Mexico they know and stopping by a Taqueria for a bite before entering the Arena for Lucha Libre. Hence the decor and name.

An Choi: Banh Mi n’ About Me

Dear Food Diary:
Two month ago, while waiting outside the insane lines of the Bon Appetit Pop Up Cafe, I met my first fellow blogger Jennifer (Blogging Souls), an avid traveler, cook and food lover. After her recent return from the sights and sounds of Brazil (makes me so jealous), she asked to do an interview “about me” over some “bahn mi”… get it? I know, I know, don’t worry, I’m keeping my day job.

Stōgo: Gourmet Organic Dairy-Free Ice Cream is a NO-GO for me

Dear Food Diary:

I’m always up for trying new things, specially if it’s an icy cold, sugary goodness, aka ice cream. I’ve pass by Stogo a couple times, and made a mental note: must try. In times like these, I wished my memory had failed me. But I guess there’s a price to my curiosity, $6 in this case.

momokufu ko: No pictures? No problem…… I got a sharpie and pad. Take that!!! (MOVED)

Dear Food Diary:

I have these love/hate feelings about David Chang and his Momofukus. There’s been so much hype surrounding all things momofuku (smart marketing on DC’s part), I want to avoid it, but I can’t, because underneath it all, there are some pretty kick ass dishes.
Though very curious, I’ve been putting off Ko because I hate that whole online reservation process, there was no way I would log-on day after day and hope I would be “lucky enough” to have the pleasure of spending $175 of my hard earned dollars for lunch, BUT since fellow blogger R&R had already made reservations, I was happy to show up.
NO PHOTO POLICY!? #$#$%$ BS I say! I came armed with my sharpie and pad, take that DC! take that! (so the “sketches” were done very loosely, mind you I also needed time to enjoy every course. There’s sure to be spelling errors, bare with me, this was the best I could do in that time frame ok? Plus I had to put up with some looks from the ppl behind the kitchen, so give me some credit!)

Economy Candy: Happy “Treat or Treating”!

Dear Food Diary:
My friend and I discovered Economy Candy last week, literally 2 kids in a candy store. This place is a must go for “Treat or Treating”! cuz let’s face it, we’re too old to knock on our neighbors doors tomorrow.
Pictured above is owner Jerry, the Willy Wonka of the LES, this place is so much more affordable than Dylan’s or wherever the rich upper east side peeps go, and you don’t even need to be at the tourist trap m&m store in Times Square to choose your colors, they have it too. Plus a sweet variety of Jelly Belly, high end mints like Oral Fixation, super whimsical 1950’s themed candy, gum, Baci chocolates, giant Pez and the list goes on and on…
