Park Avenue Winter: why Restaurant Week just isn’t worth it

park-avenue-winter-3
Dear Food Diary:

After “that” incident, Restaurant Week left yet another bad impression in me. Mainly because of the disappointments and half hearted attempts served on plates. The purpose of showcasing the establishment has been lost along the way and Park Avenue Winter unfortunately falls under that category.

L’ABSINTHE BRASSERIE: The Last Supper (of 2010)

l'absinthe brasserie
Dear Food Diary:

I ended last year on a French note and loved every minute of it. From my pre-birthday celebration at the French Wine Bar Jadis to one of my best birthdays ever, thanksgiving in Paris (those posts will come soon) and this last supper of 2010 at L’absinthe Brasserie.

One of the surprises of completing this unplanned French themed 2010 was randomly winning this $100 gift certificate. While doing some food research for the trip, I stumbled upon Celebrate the French Way and randomly entered the drawing. And voila, there was my winning! 12/31/10 was the last day to use it and so we did.

Grabbed my usual suspects, got dressed up and off we went to end the year right.

CRUMBS: Booooooooooooooottery Halloween

Dear Food Diary:
We got these cute treats at work today. I can refuse a cupcake  from Crumbs, but not when they look like this! Literally so cute I just wanted to eat them! Unfortunately, well… I guess great for them, they aren’t edible (rubber finger puppets).

LINCOLN Ristorante: First Taste & Mario Batali

LINCOLN 30
Dear Food Diary:
Walking by the newly renovated Lincoln Center, you’ll be delighted with illuminated steps, an outdoor seating under rows of well manicured trees and the new culinary child of the Patina Restaurant Group LINCOLN.
LINCOLN 31LINCOLN 1
Entering the LINCOLN was like going to the Apple Store, only much warmer, quieter and opulent. As if the architect of the 5th Ave. Apple Store married some chic boutique designer from Aspen, who just happened to have grown up in a NYC penthouse.
LINCOLN 27
Open, airy, elegant, modern, chic… in short, simply sexy. Someone wrote a piece pre-opening that I loved, can’t remember where I read it, but it said “If Woody Allen was to make the movie Manhattan today, a scene would surely be set here“.

Amy Ruth’s: Waffle and Fried Chicken Breakfast – 93 Plates Part II.

Dear Food Diary:
Saturday morning I went all the way up to Harlem for a breakfast of champions at Amy Ruth’s. I met Hagan of Wondering Foodie once again for his 93 plates project. The first time we met at Szechuan Gourmet he was at the beginning of this waist stretching journey, now at mid point, he’s added on a mere 6 lbs, not too bad considering ALL that he’s eaten so far. He’s still going strong and excited as ever, kudos to him.
My first time at Amy Ruth’s was way back in college and didn’t leave a big impression, so I was looking forward to revisiting.
