[SHANGHAI] “Jian Bing”: Crepe a la China Style
Dear Food Diary:
First morning in Shanghai, breakfast is more like a break”feast”. First stop, a visit to my favorite “Jian Bing” Lady a block from my parent’s place. Street food at its best. It’s sort of like a Chinese Crepe, but this only comes savory. It’s a classic breakfast option that can be found throughout the city (unless your in some fancy schmancy hotel. In which case, you’ll have to leave the comforts of your westernized room and get your butt to some side street or neighborhood market early in the am). My parents live at the end of LINE 8 at Shi Guang Road, but I doubt you’ll want to go this far in the morning.
[BUENOS AIRES] Waking up early for BREAKFAST
Dear Food Diary:
Mornings are not my thing, but for food, I make the extra effort. Specially for these to die for Argentinean Style Churros, which are best in the morning when they are freshly made. Needless to say, I spent many mornings at the local Confiteria (Cafe) LA CAPITAL, it’s also a Panaderia (Bakery) so they make everything fresh in house. There are 3 choices: plain, with dulce de leche center and chocolate covered dulce de leche center:
[BUENOS AIRES] Eating Helado + Giant Gelato Sword
Dear Food Diary:
Life is sweeter with dessert, so I’m starting my posts about Argentina with helado, my most beloved treat as a kid. Helado is usually translated as ice cream, but its creamy, smooth, soft texture makes it more gelato-esque. The Heladerias (Local neighborhood gelato shop. They are everywhere) in Argentina offer Helado Artesanal, which means, each shop makes their own helado with their secret recipes using real ingredients and keeping all things artificial to a minimal. No pints from the super market here. This is why each shop vary so much in flavor, creamyness, textures and ultimately quality.
[SAN FRANCISCO & Berkeley] Eats in 24 hrs
Dear Food Diary:
In between meeting up with family (some of which I haven’t seen in over 10 years) and the 1st FoodBuzz Festival events, I had time to explore and eat around places I’ve missed during my previous 2 visits. There won’t be any Golden Gate Bridge or Fishermen’s Wharf here, just some randomly fun and delicious places I managed to squeeze in.
[SEATTLE]: sleep less, eat more
ferry to Bainbridge Island
Dear Food Diary:
My first time in Seattle, WA. Arrived late Friday evening, and caught a red eye return flight to JFK late Sunday night, back to work Tuesday morning. It was a great getaway with good friends and great food. To sum it up, it was really a sleep less in Seattle, but eat more kind of weekend.
7:30 am Saturday morning, we took the ferry over to BainBridge Island. Our first brunch, followed by eating all day and a trip to Tacoma’s Museum of Glass.
