[MAINE] Chauncey Creek Lobster Pier: Best Lobsta’!

Dear Food Diary:
Apparently June 15th was National Lobster Day! To celebrate (belated I know), I’m writing about the best lobster I had on my recent trip to Maine. The owner of our lovely B&B “Morning Glory” recommended the local and hidden gem Chauncey Creek Lobster Pier, he’s a regular, so we knew we were in for a treat.

[SHANGHAI] ZHOU LI: Old Duck Soup for the Soul

Dear Food Diary:
It’s been a pretty dramatic time for me lately and being home in Shanghai is just what the doctor ordered. Away from it all, indulging in the art of doing nothing, filling my heart and tummy with so much love along with all the good eats… this is what being home brings.

In my thirst for comfort in food, my first stop had to be Zhou Li. Nothing warms you inside and out like a good hearty bowl of their “Old Duck and Vermicelli Soup”, specially in these cold winter days. Even if it meant waiting in long lines, really basic service and fighting for a seat along their communal tables.

The operation is simple. Wait in line, order at the small counter in front, take your number, find a seat and wait for your bowl to come.

[SHANGHAI] World Expo 2010: DAY 1

P1050025
Dear Food Diary:

The Shanghai expo was like going to Disney’s Epcot, minus Mickey and rides. A walk around the world featuring unique offerings from each country. I spent a total of 4 days there with my dad and we didn’t see everything!

[BUENOS AIRES]: CHORIPAN a classic street food

Choripan 2

Dear Food Diary:
One of my fondest childhood food memories is eating a choripan (“chori”zo in a “pan” (bread) makes a chorizo sandwich) on the streets of Costanera. These Buenos Aires road-side parrilla (BBQ) stands also known as Los Carritos de la Costanera offer a mean Argentinean Chorizo (usually pork, sometimes beef), grilled on the spot and cut open in half known as “mariposa” or butterfly style. Each stand has their own special sauce, usually consists of an chimichurri, provensal (parsley garlic) and a salsa criolla (onions, tomatoes and peppers).

[MYSTIC] Connecticut: A day by the Seaport

Mystic Seaport 7

Dear Food Diary:
If you still don’t have plans for this weekend, don’t worry, Mystic, Connecticut is less than a 3 hr drive away. There’s tons of things to do in this charming little town.
