[EL CALAFATE, ARGENTINA] Estancia 25 de Mayo: Cattle. Sheep. Steak. Lamb.

CALAFATE - Estancia 25 de Mayo 1

Dear Food Diary:
We landed in El Calafate from Buenos Aires on a sunny afternoon. Our goal was to see the Perito Moreno Glaciers, but due to time conflicts, our travel agent arranged for us to spend the rest of our day, plus dinner and a show at Estancia 25 de Mayo, the glaciers had to wait ’til dawn. When I read the itinerary, I wasn’t thrilled, it sounded all too “touristy”. And though in a way it was, the minute we arrived to the Estancia (Ranch) I was all smiles. The sky was glorious and the smell of fresh grass was enchanting. So gorgeous, fekt like I was in a dairy ad. As a city girl I’ve never had a late afternoon quite like this…

[DC] Cherry Blossoms, ROGUE 24 & P.O.V Rooftop

DC cherry blossom 2

Dear Food Diary:
A carpet of pink along the monuments and an occasional whimsical pedal shower from the light breeze. Cherry blossom season is my favorite reason to visit D.C. It’s always so purty in pink, specially this year, since it was the 100th year celebration of this beautiful gift from Japan.

It has been a warm winter, so everything bloomed before April. We were lucky to catch the peak/late bloom during the last weekend of March, while we snatched Gilt’s ROGUE 24 deal, $100 for a progression of 16 courses.

[PARIS] Pierre Herme: The finest macarons

pierre-herme-macarons-1

Dear Food Diary:

Since March 20th is Macaron Day in Paris (and now in NY) I thought I’d dedicate my post to the one who started this sweet day: Pierre Herme.

A trip to Paris wouldn’t be complete without indulging in Pierre Herme macarons. Luxurious, artisanal production of the finest macarons in the world. This is a real treat (yes, better than Laduree). At over 2 Euros for a precious little sandwich, the price is completely worth it. The store doesn’t allow photos and the staff can get snooty, but I managed to snap a blurry one on my way out.

Foodbuzz 24×24: CONCH TASTING in Turks & Caicos

Dear Food Diary:
The best way to enjoy this post: Put on some island music in the background and have a fruity tropical drink, maybe with a dash or two of rum. For this month’s Foodbuzz 24×24, I spend a sunny day Conch Tasting around the beautiful islands of Turks and Caicos with my friend S. We go diving for conchs and do a tasting (prepared in all sorts of ways) around the island. Not to mention, our first taste of the natural Viagra of the Caribbean! LOL (yes, it comes within the conch).
