GALLOW GREEN Rooftop: No more $20 rsvp ticket

UPDATE 8/28

gallow green rooftop dining and lounge
We celebrated my friend Greg’s birthday this past Sunday at Gallow Green, it was awesome and way less crowded than the first time around. Their reservation format changed again!!! Now they have dinner reservation through Urbanspoon. For the bar, you can RSVP gallowgreen@mckittrickhotel.com or call 212.564.1662.

If the malt vinegar crisps and warm pretzels we munched all night with our Punch Bowls were any indication of their food, I’d say, let’s meet for dinner!

Gallow Green _ The McKittrick Hotel_ Sleep No More

Dear Food Diary:
I saw Sleep No More  about a year ago and it blew me away. So when I heard about them opening their rooftop, I jumped on the chance of returning to The McKittrich Hotel and checking it out after Atera. That was about a month ago and the online reservation required a $20 ticket which would be taken off the total bill. However, when I checked the RESERVATION  site today, it seemed like cover is dropped but timed rsvp is still required.

If you haven’t seen this live version of The Tragedy of Macbeth: Sleep No Morewhere actors wonder through this abandoned 6 story hotel as you chase after them from scene to scene. Full of interactions, surprises and thrill, I highly, highly recommend it!!!

OSTERIA MORINI: the underrated brunch

Osteria Morini

Dear Food Diary:
Brunch is big in New York City and getting a table for 6 is never an easy job, specially on a last minute notice. My favorite places were all booked up this past Saturday so I turned to Michael White’s Osteria Morini in Soho (after all, he was behind my favorite meal in 2010 – Marea). To my surprise, the place was empty at 11:30 am, by the time we left around 1:30 pm, it got full but not crowded. After our great Italian home-style family brunch, I was convinced, this is one of the underrated brunch spots in this city.

COCORON: Cold soba noodles for a hot summer day

cocoron 1

Dear Food Diary:
On hot days like this one, all I want is a dish of cold soba (satisfying and healthy). I usually get my soba fix at Soba Totto or Soba Nippon when I’m in Midtown, but around the LES Cocoron has my heart. The place is small, so it gets crowded quickly, but well worth the wait.

The NoMad: Daniel Humm’s “less fancy” approach to his food

The NoMad by Daniel Humm 3

Dear Food Diary:
Chef Daniel Humm’s second restaurant is one of the most anticipated and talked about new openings. I finally dined at his highly rated Eleven Madison Park a couple weeks ago and so with my taste memory still fresh, I just had to try The NoMad.

Mission Chinese Food NYC: “things that make you go hmmm”!? (CLOSED)

Mission Chinese Food NYC 6

Dear Food Diary:
A couple days ago, Underground Dining and I tried the new “chinese food” joint in town. Their SF restaurant has great reviews, so as you can imagine, it was all the buzz when they landed in NYC. I love the food of my peoples and I’m always open to unique and creative twists to classics, but somehow, Arsenio Hall (I’m dating myself, oh well…) took over me while walking out of dinner … “things dishes that make you go hmmm“!?
