Szechuan Gourmet: Lunch with “The 93 Plates Adventure”

Dear Food Diary:
First day back to work and I had lunch plans with Hagan from Wandering Foodie. The 93 Plates Adventure is his project for the month of January, 3 meals a day at an array of restaurants throughout the city (93 joints in total), shared with a different NYC food blogger each time. He’s disregarding his waistline and pursuing the adventure he envisioned *applause*, specially when most people’s new year resolution goes exactly the opposite direction.

La Lucha Tacos: Round Uno – Taste Match

Dear Food Diary:
Last Friday night was alphabet city’s new joint La Lucha Taco’s opening night. I use to watch Mucha Lucha every saturday morning, so the name brought an immediate smile and more importantly the possibility of finding the perfect taco place in nyc.
By the time we arrived around 7:30pm, there was a long line, apparently I wasn’t the only one excited about getting a real Mexican street food experience. We placed our name at the door with friendly co-owner Carlos, who opened this with his best friend. Their idea is to transport us to the Mexico they know and stopping by a Taqueria for a bite before entering the Arena for Lucha Libre. Hence the decor and name.

Dainobu deli+groceries: Asian Munchies for Lunchie

Dear Food Diary:

Some days, I wonder the streets, block after block in hunger trying to answer the age old question “what’s for lunch?”
Today I walked into Dainobu and declared it an Asian Munchies for Lunchie Day.

Sunrise Bakery & Cafe: Big Fluffy Baos

Dear Food Diary:
Last Sunday afternoon, I just happen to walk by Sunrise Bakery & Cafe, hunger struck so I went in for a quick bite, Steamed chicken bao and “yun yeung” (coffee, tea and milk). I wasn’t expecting much, same usual stuff from any HK bakery was what I had in mind, BUT I was tastefully surprised by what I found.

Onya Noodle Shop: Fresh made udon is the difference

Dear Food Diary:
I never was a fan of udon noodle, I’ve tried to avoid this doughy and many times mushy bowl of bla for the longest time, but one slurp of Onya Noodle Shop’s udon soup, and I couldn’t fight it any longer, this stuff is great, I’m betting because it’s freshly made on the spot.
