EL COLMADO at Gotham West Market: Tapas y Vino

El colmado - gotham west market - jamon iberico de bellota

Dear Food Diary:
El Colmado at Gotham West Market has been on my list from the minute they posted a photo of percebes. Before their Instagram post, I had only seen these intriguing sea creatures on t.v.

Last Saturday, I was all excited, only to be told they weren’t in stock. With that, I proceeded to eat and drink my disappointment away with tapas y vino. And boy, was I glad we stayed.

LITTLE SHEEP MONGOLIAN HOT POT: Winter Steamy Dipping

Little Sheep Mongolian Hot Pot

Dear Food Diary:
When it comes to hot pot, Flushing just rules over the other boroughs. With so many options, Little Sheep Mongolian Hot Pot is top on my list.

I couldn’t take this cold weather any longer, so we ventured into my old hood yesterday for some good old steamy dipping fun. Seriously, the perfect winter fix a train ride away.

BCD Tofu House: 24hrs Korean Comfort Food

BCD tofu - Banchan

Dear Food Diary:
Not too long ago, I had to trek all the way to Jersey for my BCD Tofu House fix. Thankfully, they’ve reopened in K-town.

On a crazy snow day like today, this would really hit the spot. But then again, spicy Korean comfort food comes in handy any day and you never know when you might desperately need it.

Open 24hrs is such a a perk.

land of plenty

Dear Food Diary:
We stumbles upon Land of Plenty one night after tennis class on the East side. I was hesitant. Chinese food right across from Bloomingdales? Could this authentic?

Imagine my surprise when I saw a sea of my peoples in the dining room! Did I just get transported to China?

So this is where Chinese folks eat Chinese food in Midtown East…

Cocina Economica: Home-style Mexican on the UWS (CLOSED)

cocina economica

Dear Food Diary:
I was shocked when Recipe – one of my favorite brunch spots on the UWS closed last year. Shorty after, Cocina Economica’s sign was up. I wasn’t amused. Why close a great place beloved by so many?

Word in the barrio was that chef/owner David Bank was so impressed with his Sous Chef Pedro’s home-style Mexican meals (cooked for staff) – he wanted to showcase it. Changing everything from name to decor.

Lucky for us, we get to try a really different take on Mexican food.
