Kobeyaki: Decent sushi rolls for a quick meal

Dear Food Diary:
We stumbled upon Kobeyaki the other night after kickboxing class. StalkerBoy wanted ramen and I was craving sushi, something quick and casual. Kobeyaki fit that bill, think modern Japanese/fusion style fast food joint.

A good selection on the menu. Anything from salads, bowls, burgers, rolls, ramen, sweet potato tempura and for dessert they have mochi ice cream.

The Seaweed Salad was good as any.

The Sashimi Roll was bigger than expected. At $9.66 it was basically a whole meal for me. The salmon, tuna and shrimp were quite fresh and the rice wasn’t too hard (like your usual deli roll). The avocado, tempura flakes were nice textures to have and that creamy ginger sauce sealed the deal. Scallion on top. I was happy.

Their Ramen however, was a disaster. The broth was the best part, the noodles were oddly stiff and stuck to the teeth. None of that bouncy, chewy quality. The pork was a bit dry and flavorless.

Overall, I enjoyed what I ordered, StalkerBoy’s ramen not so much. I would go back for the rolls and maybe try some other items if I’m in the area. I hear the pork buns and sweet potato tempura are good. It’s a good place to grab a quick bite, specially if you’re tired of the typical deli for lunch.
