David Burke at Bloomingdales: after shopping fuel

david burke at bloomingdales

Dear Food Diary:
There’s nothing better than finishing a great shopping day with great food. I guess I work close enough, that making the trek up for lunch isn’t so bad either. There’s always room in my closet for more shopping, just like there’s room in my tummy for yummy food.

David Burke KITCHEN: Jars & Fried Chicken Brunch

David Burke Kitchen 1

Dear Food Diary:
I’ve been a loyal David Burke follower. From Fishtail, Townhouse, to his Beverage Series, I find his food to be solid and unpretentious. Plus, I trust chubby chefs and what they bring to the plate. DB Kitchen is his attempt on farm to table.

Tucked inside chic The James Hotel, DB Kitchen has an airy, open and bright main dining room and bar. Pleasant, warm and zero stuffiness. With friendly and attentive service.

M. WELLS: Quebec-American Diner in LIC (closed)

Dear Food Diary:
W, S and I went to Paris for the first time 2 years ago. Since then, we’ve been doing our “Paris Reunion” dinners every once in a while. Obviously, going along with the theme, it’s always french. This time around, I suggested a minor adjustment, M. Wells isn’t exactly “french” per se, but I read rave reviews. So off we went on a cold Wednesday night. Exit the 7 train, the only bright storefront, that well… looks like a diner!

SEERSUCKER: Tuesday Fried Chicken Dinners!!! (CLOSED)

Dear Food Diary:
At last year’s Le Grand Fooding 2010, Seersucker’s chef/owner Robert Newton showcased his Tennessee-Style Fried Chicken. If you’re looking for that post, well… you know what happened (I’ll try to re-write it one of these day). Anyways, back to his fried chicken. It was one of the best things I tasted all night and I went back for seconds. That finger licking goodness had me dreaming and drooling ever since.

Seersucker is a warm neighborhood joint, right off the F train in Carroll Gardens. Serving seasonal Southern dishes. Friendly and casual. Modern and traditional. Old and new.

When my hard-core fried chicken lover J was in town. I knew just the place to take him, marked our calendars with Tuesday Fried Chicken Night (the only night it’s served). I heard some nights they sell out of fried chicken around 7:30pm, we were cutting it close and there was no way I was gonna make it all the way to Brooklyn on a school night and disappoint ma’cravings. So I made P run from the train, marathon style on Smith St (got out of the wrong exit and got a little lost). Yes, we ran for fried chicken!!! Oh, the things I do for food…

Park Avenue Winter: why Restaurant Week just isn’t worth it

Dear Food Diary:

After “that” incident, Restaurant Week left yet another bad impression in me. Mainly because of the disappointments and half hearted attempts served on plates. The purpose of showcasing the establishment has been lost along the way and Park Avenue Winter unfortunately falls under that category.
