Hill Country Chicken: is there a Popeyes nearby?

Hill Country Chicken 1
Dear Food Diary:
Just the thought of fried chicken makes me giggle like a silly school girl on a sugar high. I enjoy it when I’m happy and devour it when I’m sad. Either way, this is a win-win relationship.

Walked… I mean, hoped and jumped in to Hill Country Chicken… this was an exciting day, Chubby Chinese Boy and I planned our 24 hrs around it. All natural, well treated chicken who eat healthier than I do, sure, sure! I dig, I dig.

Highpoint Bistro and Bar: Blogger Tasting Night

Highpoint bistro bar 3

Dear Food Diary:
The fairly new Chelsea joint Highpoint hosted a night of tasting for 15 lucky bloggers, yelpers and tweeters two weeks ago. Chef Phil Deffina orchestrated a dinner filled with a wide range of dishes (offered on the regular menu).

With a glass of Chenin Blanc St, Just Saumur Blanc 2008, Loire at hand, the food started rolling out and our tasting began.

BACK FORTY: Summer Crab Boils every Tuesday (’til Sept 3rd)

BACK FORTY 1
Dear Food Diary:
Last Tuesday, went down to Back Forty for their annual summer crab boil. If your feeling like getting your hands dirty and doing some tasty crab and beer, tomorrow is your night. Well, tomorrow and every Tuesday night until right before Labor Day. For $40, you get an insane amount of steamed blue crabs, corn, potato, corn bread and cobbler dessert. Get your tix for tomorrow here! (from Brown Paper Tickets).
BACK FORTY 6
We started our crabby night at the bar with their signature cocktails. Red and Black (tequila, strawberries, black pepper, lime) summery with a kick and a pepper rim, interesting combo of flavors. Loisaida Sling (cachaca, ginger beer, chipotle) this one was super spicy, in a good way, it got my tongue ready for the spicy feast ahead. If your into Bourbon or Whiskey, they seemed to have a good selection of things, both local and imported.

Vinegar Hill House: Twice in a week. Amazing Dinner and another amazing Brunch.

REVISITED November 10,2012

Dear Food Diary:
It’s always sad when you’re favorite restaurant begins to slip. Vinegar Hill use to be one of my favorite places in Brooklyn. But the last couple times I’ve been back, their main dishes seemed to have suffered from a downgrade factor. Their Country Chops got smaller and that fantastic Cast Iron Chicken that brought them fame was off the menu! What? And though food was still good, it definitely isn’t holding onto the 5 Chubby Rating I gave 2 years ago. *Sigh*
