Jeanne & Gaston: Press dinner [guest post]
Roger did his first guest post as the winner of the “Edible Garden Festival and Mario Batali Cooking Demo”. He did such a great job that I invited him to attend the Jeanne & Gaston press dinner on my behalf. He’s now started his own blog Roger eats like a pig!
Here is his review:
Jeanne & Gaston is a quaint traditional French restaurant in Chelsea whose nondescript appearance belies a laid-back and comforting ambiance.
Torrisi Italian Specialty: Great $65 Tasting Menu
Dear Food Diary:
My first taste of Torrisi was back at Le Fooding 2010, where Rich Torrisi and Mario Carbone’s pig tongue dish left a bad taste in my mouth. Therefore the restaurant got bumped all the way down on my eating list. Only recently, did it make it to the top again. Word on the street is that their fresh mozzarella is legit, so I had to take this long overdue trip to Nolita.
Mami PG’s Cooking: Delivering homemade Penang style lunch boxes
Dear Food Diary:
2 weeks ago, I read about Mami PG’s Cooking on Midtown Lunch. A family business run by Malaysian freelance journalist Nani Yusof Hughie. She cooks up authentic Penang dishes and delivers them lunch box style to the Malaysian deprived midtown lunch crowd. The Nasi Lemak lunch was only $7! Yes please!
Noodies Thai Kitchen: a warm hug from a bowl of soup noodle
Dear Food Diary:
We stumbled upon Noodies Thai Kitchen on a rainy day while I was feeling under the weather. Seeking comfort from bowl of soup noodle, I wanted something simple and lighter than ramen. As we wondered around Hell’s Kitchen, I looked across the street and saw their cute sign. Tiny little place, with a lot of character and great prices. Most importantly, that bowl of chicken noodle soup hit the spot, like a warm hug from my mama.
FRANKIES SPUNTINO: Fresh and simple lunch
Dear Food Diary:
A while back at the Frieze Art Fair, I made sure we snatched a reservation for Frankies Spuntino. Amongst the brightly lit pavilion filled with art work from galleries all over the world, we also got to stimulate our senses during meal time. A fresh and simple lunch by the window. Nice and relaxing.
The items were right off the menu of their Manhattan and Brooklyn locations. Perfectly light for a hot summer day.
