Piora: More Monkey Bread Please!

Piora - bar

Dear Food Diary:
One of the best things about blogging is meeting other food lovers. When tabelog had it’s NY Judge meet ‘n greet a couple weeks ago, I met Yvonne and Terry from FilledwithSweets. We immediately made plans to a foodie dinner.

Piora was on top of all our lists and we were able to snatch a reservation for 3 on a weeknight.

Oh my… that monkey bread was the most memorable thing we had that night.

Ai Fiori: Proposal Dinner

ai fiori - proposal dinner
Dear Food Diary:
Stalkerboy very nonchalantly asked me to dinner before my trip to Shanghai. I was a little suspicious, but dinner progressed without any surprise. After dinner, he suggested a walk in Bryant Park, but my 4 inch heels equaled unhappy feet. After a little argument we took a cab back to his place so I could rest my hurting feet.

While sitting on his couch, out of the blue, he proposed. *swoon*

Afterwards, he spilled his plan to propose at the restaurant, he was holding off until dessert, but it got pretty crowded and he got really nervous. So even though, it didn’t happen at Ai Fiori, it will always have a special place in our hearts. Our dinner was fantastic with great service. We’ll definitely be back to celebrate our special dates.

JACOB’S PICKLE: Total calorie splurge. Well worth it.

jacob's pickle

Dear Food Diary:
After running a 5k charity run, the girls and I splurged our hard earned calories at Jacob’s Pickle. And boy, ohhh boy, it was deliciously spent.

Chill vibe, rustic setting, great food and prices on the Upper West Side. Comfort food at its best plus a variety of pickles.

I can’t wait to go back.

TREEHAUS: Best Steam Table for my last lunch in Midtown East

treehaus steam table - bone marrow and shark

Dear Food Diary:
Today is my last day as Senior Art Director at this agency. After 10+ years in Midtown East, I’ve had my share of wonderful lunches. We don’t have much retail but we make up for it in good food, specially Japanese!

For my last lunch, I wanted to visit Treehaus and their kick ass steam table one last time. The best addition to the area in the last couple years. We really needed this. No korean deli can compare to the quality and selection. Where else would I get Bone Marrow for lunch? or Shark? or Fried Frog legs and oysters? Grilled octopus? Skate?  I will surely miss it.

Oh! And the Dough and latte

SALUMERIA ROSI: Tuscan Toast takes over French Toast

salumeria rosi

Dear Food Diary:
French toast and brunch seem to go hand in hand. Before Salumeria Rosi, I always had that Vanilla Brioche French Toast as my favorite sweet treat for brunch. But the moment I tasted Salumeria Rosi’s Tuscan Toast I was immediately weaned off  french toast forever.

The rest of the menu here is pretty sweet too. Tuscan dishes served tapas style. An impressive array of cured meats and fresh bread.

There’s a reason why I chose to take their food to Diner en Blanc 2012 (one of the most magical nights I had in NYC), their flavors never disappoint, whether in store or take out.
