[TOKYO] Perchoir Mochi Mont Blanc & Tokyo Imperial Palace

perchoir mochi mont blanc 3

Dear Food Diary:
Commuting through Tokyo station to meet our friends from Singapore, these colorful desserts caught my eye.

Perchoir Mochi Mont Blanc, a hybrid of traditional Asian mochi and French mont blanc. With a twist of flavors.

I’ve never had anything like them texture wise. And like a really good first date, I still can’t stop thinking about them.

[TOKYO] Shinyokohama Ramen Museum

Dear Food Diary:
Enduring 1.5 hrs on 2 trains from Akihabara Station, we finally arrived at Shinyokohama Ramen Museum. It opened in 1994 as the world’s first food amusement park.

Part exhibition and souvenir shop. The main draw is their selection of 9 different ramen shops, well established, each in their own region across Japan. Hungry, we went in search for the perfect bowl.

[TOKYO] SUZUYA: Tonkatsu Cyazuke – Sizzling Fried Pork Cutlet Rice in Tea

SUZUYA - TONKATSU CYAZUKE - akibaichi 3

Dear Food Diary:
Exploring the city can get tiring, yeah I know, how tough for me and my first world problems. But it’s been over a week and my old bones needed a break, so for today’s lunch, instead of hopping on the train, I walked to Akibaichi which is right in our neighborhood.

There’s 3 floors of restaurants to choose from but Susuya’s Tonkatsu Cyazuke looked different. I’ve had my share of tonkatsu (Japanese deep fried pork cutlet) at Donburiya & Katsu-hama back home, but not with a pile of cabbage on top? I went in to further taste-igate.

To my surprise, they had instructions of how to eat and tea to pour over rice, pork cutlet and pickles. How fun…

[TOKYO] SASANOYUKI: 11 Course Tofu Tasting & Ueno Park

SASANOYUKI - tofu restaurant - entrance

Dear Food Diary:
When ChubbyReader Kenneth suggested Sasanoyuki I immediately added it to my Tokyo Eat list. The idea of a tasting made entirely out of tofu variations was intriguing and totally unique. Nothing really similar back in NYC. Though, we did once have Kyotofu, but even then, it was a more of a modern and hip tofu dessert spot.

Sasanoyuki has been making tofu using traditional methods since 1691. It supplies tofu to the Imperial family! If it’s good enough for the royals, it’s definitely good enough for this Chubby.

I enjoyed a 11 course tofu tasting before a nice walk in the finally sunny (been raining these few days) Ueno park.

[TOKYO] Panda Sweets & Eats Galore!

Panda bakery - Ecute - JR Ueno Station

Dear Food Diary:
As if Panda donuts weren’t a cuteness overload all in itself, the amount of Panda sweets & eats all around Ueno Zoo is countless. From panda bread loafs, cakes, cookies to rice balls and even panda iced hot chocolate.

If you’re in love with these cuddly cuties as I am, this one’s for you…
