North Brooklyn Farms: Farm to Table Supper Club in Williamsburg

Dear Food Diary:
I didn’t know what to expect when we arrived at North Brooklyn Farms for their first Farm-to-Table Supper Club a few Sundays ago. For one, I’ve never been to this part of Williamsburg and what a surprise it was. A little blooming farm right by the bridge. Their whole concept of bringing the farm to a city setting put a smile on my face.
Delightfully surprised and treated to a lovely night with my girls and a farm fresh meal as we held on to summer.
We arrived and a small but compact farm with aromatic herbs, leafy greens, tomatoes, eggplant. Simply beautiful.
Who knew something so awesome would come out of an empty park/lot. What a great idea.
As the sun was setting, we were invited to pick tomatoes for our dinner.
Most of us don’t have gardens in the city, so this was a total treat to me. I’ve actually never picked any vegetables and killed my basil plants (yes, plural).
3 course farm fresh dinner + drinks = $40
As the chef grilled away. A refreshing Purple Basil Infused Gin Cucumber Cocktail was served as we spent time to roam freely around the farm.
Taking in the sights and fresh aromas.
During sunset… dinner started…
This dip with fresh herbs, garlic and pine nuts was just so addictive. Think creamier version of pesto. My friends J, C and I love our meat, but this was so satisfying. We actually hogged the bowl (we were suppose to share with everyone at our communal table, but just couldn’t stop eating).
I’m always in awe of the ever changing skyscapes. As the night grew closer, our dinner was served.
We started off with grilled vegetables and the tomatoes we had picked earlier. A bountiful bowl of pole beans, purple and golden fingerling potatoes, corn. Simply dressed with lemon, olive oil and a little of that fresh herb dressing. The natural flavors of each component was so intense, it definitely stole the show. This was so good. we all wished there was a bigger bowl.
The chickpea and tomato pie was so hearty. Loved the sun dried tomato, it brought a bright sweetness without being overly tart. Farm fresh greens and grilled vegetables on the side.
For dessert, the peach cobbler was such a happy ending. A soft, chewy ginger oatmeal cookie with big flavors from the fragrance peach and hazelnuts. Not too sweet, which I prefer.
I didn’t think this meal would be filling or satisfying, but it really was. Good food makes the body happy.
I was so glad to have found this unique supper club, the setting definitely brought that rustic farm in a urban setting ambiance.
Around the dinner table, we heard something about luxury condos in this space next year – how sad, I know.
I complained about the loss of such a wonderful space and idea to the North Brooklyn Farm peeps, but they simply asked me join them and “Let’s enjoy what we have now”, I love that attitude and positive vibe.
If you wan’t to experience the supper club too, here’s the schedule for upcoming dinners in the fall. I highly recommend it.
