UO: Live sushi and sashimi. Overly creative. (CLOSED)
Dear Food Diary:
New Yorkers (specially us bloggers) put up with a lot when it comes to dining out. Impossible to get reservations, logging online at specific times for a spot, waiting outside in the freezing cold, you say it, we’ve done it. But UO went beyond, couple hrs before our reservation on a Saturday night, they apologize for “no fish” over the phone and canceled on us! Say what?… Any sane person would cross this place off their list and moved on, but oh no! not us! We are bloggers darn it! and there’s nothing more alluring than a yelp newby. I mean, we live for this stuff and there’s no pride when it comes to satisfying our palate and curiosity. Our 2nd reservation was 4 days later.
Soba Totto: Birthday Lunch
UPDATED 5/11/2012
It’s been more than 2 years since my post (read below) and though a lot has changed in this city, I’m happy to report that my favorite soba spots remain the same. If anything, they’ve evolved into an even better place by adding more menu options and Happy Hour! I go for lunch about once or twice a month and it never disappoints.
Lunch isn’t exactly cheap, but totally worth it as a treat every now and then. If the average $20+ seems too extravagant for lunch but you are a soba lover like me, do not pout, you can get plain soba starting at $10.
Kyotofu: Very Girly. Very Tofulicious (CLOSED)
Dear Food Diary:
Kyotofu is one of my favorite places for an all girls get together. Light bites, girly drinks and beautiful yet super yummy tofu desserts. Boys go there too, don’t get me wrong, but they’re usually dragged/arm twisted/threatened by a girlfriend. Basically everything is delicate and real purty, and boys just don’t seem to get it, which is understandable. Below is a compilation of my many visits.
Tsushima: Freshest sashimi & Best lunch deals, specially on Tuesdays
Dear Food Diary:
Tomorrow is Tuesday, which means Tsushima (Owned by the Chef pictured above) will have their Tsushima’s Chirashi Special, freshest sashimi around, with well seasoned sushi rice (not over powered by vinegar and mushy), seasonal side and miso soup. It’s such an awesome steal ($13.50) that I would cross-town, take the train, or walk 10 blocks for it. And this is why, I *heart* Tuesday.
