TREEHAUS: Best Steam Table for my last lunch in Midtown East

treehaus steam table - bone marrow and shark

Dear Food Diary:
Today is my last day as Senior Art Director at this agency. After 10+ years in Midtown East, I’ve had my share of wonderful lunches. We don’t have much retail but we make up for it in good food, specially Japanese!

For my last lunch, I wanted to visit Treehaus and their kick ass steam table one last time. The best addition to the area in the last couple years. We really needed this. No korean deli can compare to the quality and selection. Where else would I get Bone Marrow for lunch? or Shark? or Fried Frog legs and oysters? Grilled octopus? Skate?  I will surely miss it.

Oh! And the Dough and latte

TREEHAUS: Brooklyn’s DOUGH doughnuts in the city

Treehaus

Dear Food Diary:
Treehaus is my favorite new addition to the Midtown East area. Totally unlike the usual Asian deli (so tired of those duplicate copies). The space is bright, airy and it feels like being in Brooklyn. Sweet coffee shop in the front, juice bar, futuristic steam table on the side (American comfort with a French twist) and tons of different food choices in the back.

Yesterday afternoon I went back for their creamy latte and OMG!!! (yes, I’m getting all valley girl here)… seriously! OMG!!! I saw a couple rows of doughnuts and I knew they were from DOUGH. Woohooo!!! My plan to get a beach ready body (going to DR on Friday) was put on hold yet again and I indulged… Oh, yes, I, did…

Akdeniz: Great Mediterranean Turkish in Midtown

akdeniz restaurant

Dear Food Diary:
My long time friend from Argentina requested Turkish food for our dinner date. Aside from my visit to Istanbul, I ever really “craved” Turkish when I’m in NYC. This turned out to be a good way to try something new. Akdeniz Restaurant had some good reviews and it’s close to work. Didn’t give it much thought.

To my surprise, the food was excellent. This could be my new lunch stop. Definitely a good place for a pre-theater meal. It’s not actually in Times Square, but close enough. The Turkish meatballs were solid and rather similar to some of the ones I had on my trip.

Panera Bread: Soup for lunch

Dear Food Diary:
As part of Daily Buzz’s Taste Maker Program I was invited to visit Panera bread and try their soups. One of the reasons I agreed was their choice of ingredients – fresh, thoughtfully sourced. Plus, there’s nothing more heartwarming than a bowl of soup on a cold day.

Macchiato Espresso Bar: maple pecan danish & latte

Macchiato Expreso Bar - latte and maple pecan danish

Dear Food Diary:
My latest breakfast obsession have been these Maple Pecan Danishes at Macchiato Espresso Bar. Super fresh (I read that they bake in house, which explains). Extra flaky and buttery. The pecan’s nutty aroma are like extra pops of awesomeness and the filling is light and not too sweet. I’ve had it every day this week, but heck! It’s the holidays!!!

Their creamy lattes and mochas are really good too… great way to start the morning.
