Dear Food Diary:
Kung Hei Fat Choy 恭喜發財!!! Happy and Prosperous year of the Rabbit!!!

If you’re planning to celebrate at the Annual Chinatown Luna New Year Parade and Festival this Sunday 6th (details here), you could make it a full day event of fun, food and more food in Chinatown. I guess minus the lion and dragon dances, this could be an itinerary for any day.

MORNING: Dim Sum at Ping’s Restaurant

The festivities start at 11am, plenty of time to fill your tummy first. The best dim sum place in Chinatown is Ping’s Restaurant. My all time favorite and to go place for these tasty Hong Kong style “tapas”. It might be a little pricier and everything is smaller, but you honestly get what you pay for. Delicately made, authentic flavors and always consistent.

Park Avenue Winter: why Restaurant Week just isn’t worth it

Dear Food Diary:

After “that” incident, Restaurant Week left yet another bad impression in me. Mainly because of the disappointments and half hearted attempts served on plates. The purpose of showcasing the establishment has been lost along the way and Park Avenue Winter unfortunately falls under that category.

Foodbuzz 24×24: Cooking Shanghainese with my ChubbyMama

Dear Food Diary:
For this month’s Foodbuzz 24×24, my proposal was geared towards a personal mission. As you might of realized from reading this blog, I don’t cook much. Yet I grew up eating amazing Shanghainese home cooking and my parents owned restaurants. Friends always ask how was it possible, I’d reply with a big smile that all my efforts were put to good use, developing my taste buds and an hearty appetite. But it got me thinking… maybe it was time to learn these classic dishes for my own good. After all, the best cure for a homesick tummy are these nostalgic meals shared with family. It’s no secret, restaurants just can’t compare.

[Seasonal] MADISON SQ. MARK’T

Dear Food Diary:

A few Sundays ago, as ChubbyChineseBoy and I were walking towards K-town for some Sul Lung Tang (ox bone soup), we stumbled upon the Madison Sq. Mark’t. Eating and shopping, 2 of my favorite things in one place, how could I refuse, change of plans, the soup had to wait.

We were having a little disagreement (can’t remember what, must of been silly) as we were walking but then we saw this:

Lunch with Bobby Flay, Aunt Becky and Hellman’s… (well…sorta)

Dear Food Diary:
This Tuesday, I was invited (along with a group of NY food bloggers) to spend my lunch hour at the Hellmann’s Back to School Mealtime Solutions 101 with Bobby Flay and yes, that Aunt Becky (from FullHouse Lori Loughlin).
