Urban Lobster Shack: Where’s the meat!? (CLOSED)
Dear Food Diary:
A big giant red lobster handed me the menu for an Urban Lobster Shack while passing through 3rd Ave the other day. What a great idea, Crystal Pavilion already has Pampano Taqueria but as any food loving blogger, I was ready to welcome this new addition with open arms. So much so, that I started following them on Twitter.
Soba Totto: Birthday Lunch
UPDATED 5/11/2012
It’s been more than 2 years since my post (read below) and though a lot has changed in this city, I’m happy to report that my favorite soba spots remain the same. If anything, they’ve evolved into an even better place by adding more menu options and Happy Hour! I go for lunch about once or twice a month and it never disappoints.
Lunch isn’t exactly cheap, but totally worth it as a treat every now and then. If the average $20+ seems too extravagant for lunch but you are a soba lover like me, do not pout, you can get plain soba starting at $10.
La Lucha Tacos: Round Uno – Taste Match
Dear Food Diary:
Last Friday night was alphabet city’s new joint La Lucha Taco’s opening night. I use to watch Mucha Lucha every saturday morning, so the name brought an immediate smile and more importantly the possibility of finding the perfect taco place in nyc.
By the time we arrived around 7:30pm, there was a long line, apparently I wasn’t the only one excited about getting a real Mexican street food experience. We placed our name at the door with friendly co-owner Carlos, who opened this with his best friend. Their idea is to transport us to the Mexico they know and stopping by a Taqueria for a bite before entering the Arena for Lucha Libre. Hence the decor and name.
An Choi: Banh Mi n’ About Me
Dear Food Diary:
Two month ago, while waiting outside the insane lines of the Bon Appetit Pop Up Cafe, I met my first fellow blogger Jennifer (Blogging Souls), an avid traveler, cook and food lover. After her recent return from the sights and sounds of Brazil (makes me so jealous), she asked to do an interview “about me” over some “bahn mi”… get it? I know, I know, don’t worry, I’m keeping my day job.
Blue Hill at Stone Barns: Fall in NY
Dear Food Diary:
Last Sunday PianoBoy and I took a short drive upstate for a day out of the city and close to nature. It was great walking amongst the fall colors and farm animals, even the sun came out to play.
Originally we made plans for lunch in the main dining room, but it was “formal” and I wasn’t in the mood for dressing up, just wanted to stroll around in the fresh crisp air, get the most out of fall before winter comes around, so we decided to save it for another time (very soon). And had a nice lunch at the cafe instead.
