JACOB’S PICKLE: Total calorie splurge. Well worth it.

jacob's pickle

Dear Food Diary:
After running a 5k charity run, the girls and I splurged our hard earned calories at Jacob’s Pickle. And boy, ohhh boy, it was deliciously spent.

Chill vibe, rustic setting, great food and prices on the Upper West Side. Comfort food at its best plus a variety of pickles.

I can’t wait to go back.

[TOKYO] Asakusa: temple, ramen, snacks and souvenirs

Asakusa - Kaminarimon Temple Gate

Dear Food Diary:
Asakusa is one of the “must” for anyone visiting Tokyo. With tons of shops, side streets and alleys. The Kuminarimon temple gate, Nakamise traditional shopping street, Gojunoto five story pagoda and anything from sweets to savory. Plus, souvenirs for everyone on your list.

The first time I visited (5 years ago) was a complete visual overload and blur. This time around, I brought StalkerBoy (the pixelated version in the photo is the only one he allows to show) and as people visited us, like any good host, I went along. After a few visits, I compiled some of my favorites, from ramen to snacks.

North Brooklyn Farms: Farm to Table Supper Club in Williamsburg

Dear Food Diary:
I didn’t know what to expect when we arrived at North Brooklyn Farms for their first Farm-to-Table Supper Club a few Sundays ago. For one, I’ve never been to this part of Williamsburg and what a surprise it was. A little blooming farm right by the bridge. Their whole concept of bringing the farm to a city setting put a smile on my face.

Delightfully surprised and treated to a lovely night with my girls and a farm fresh meal as we held on to summer.

PAGANI: underwhelming new Italian spot

PAGANI nyc

Dear Food Diary:
After a whole summer without Italian food, I was excited to read about Pagani – not that we need another Italian spot in this city – but hey, who am I to refuse fresh pasta and good marinara.

The girls and I pampered ourselves at the spa and stopped by Pagani for an early dinner. I wish I could say our tummies were pampered as well, but for the most part, it was a bland, forgettable meal.

Sorry to report another case of taste buds amnesia.

SAKAMAI: Egg on Egg on Egg

SAKAMAI

Dear Food Diary:
Right before leaving for Japan this summer, my friend J and I had a great get together over sake and Japanese style tapas at SakaMai.

Their Egg on Egg on Egg has been on my mind ever since (even after coming back from Japan). Definitely one the highlights of our meal.
